Located in the heart of the South Bay area, Speech Language Pathologist, Bernadette Rivera is dedicated to providing children & young adults with the highest quality of individualized communication services.

With over 8 years of clinical experience, Bernadette strives to help children discover their potential to communicate in a fun and meaningful way. She takes pride in applying current research and innovative techniques to truly connect with each child. By incorporating child interests, strengths, and challenges, she develops highly individualized speech and language programs to promote growth in their social and academic community.

 

Background

Bernadette is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist, licensed by the state of California, and certified NPA to contract with school districts in the South Bay area. She received her Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from UCLA, and completed her Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology & Audiology at NYU. She has extensive experience working with the pediatric population in a variety of settings- including Mount Sinai Hospital New York City, the Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, public and private school sites, outpatient clinics, and in-home working directly with families.

Bernadette's specialty is working with children with Autism, developmental delays, learning disabilities, apraxia, sensory processing issues, and social & emotional language disorders. With prior experience in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), she creatively blends components of contextual learning, DIR Floortime, the latest technology, and cutting edge research to connect with each child and build a healthy foundation for communication. Her knowledge and training include the following:

Services

Services Offered

Services include individualized speech and language therapy, evaluations, and consultations.  Services are provided in office or in the client's natural learning environment, such as in home, daycare, or school site. All services are by appointment only. Call today for a free, initial consultation!


Consultations

Consultations gather general information about a client, including primary concerns, previous therapy, assessments, and present diagnoses. Consultations serve as a chance to meet the client, family, and/or related professionals to discuss the best approaches towards meeting the client's communication needs and goals. 

Evaluations

The evaluation assesses all areas of communication, including receptive and expressive language, articulation, phonology, oral motor, voice and fluency, and social pragmatic skills. The evaluation includes formal standardized testing, informal observation, and parent and/or client interview. Treatment plan and recommendations are provided based on outcome. 

Therapy

Speech and language treatment programs are developed based on goals and current individual needs. Bernadette utilizes a variety of techniques and encourages team collaboration with parents, caregivers, and other related professionals to maximize communication success. Our office is centrally located in the South Bay area in Torrance, CA. It is about one block east of Pacific Coast Highway and Hawthorne Blvd on Madison Street. 

Services may be provided in office, home, daycare, or school site depending upon location and availability. Team collaboration in the child's natural environment is key!

Policies

Insurance

Bernadette Rivera, M.A., CCC-SLP at Hello World Speech Therapy, Inc. is considered an out-of-network provider. All services are self-pay. She does not file with any insurance companies. However, Bernadette will gladly provide a monthly invoice that can be submitted to your insurance company for an out-of-network reimbursement if applicable. Appropriate CPT procedure and diagnostic codes will clearly be indicated on the invoice.  

While a doctor's referral is often necessary for getting authorization and coverage from your insurance company, your child can be seen without a referral. Please check with your insurance company for more information regarding reimbursement and whether pre-authorization is necessary.

Fees

Please contact Bernadette directly for more information regarding individual fees. The fee for therapy is based on an hourly rate and includes time spent in direct therapy with the child and consultation with the family. Shorter sessions may be discussed, particularly for younger children under the age of 3.

Cancellations

A 24-hour notice is required in the event of a cancellation. Missed appointments without a 24-hour notice are subject to a cancellation fee. We understand that unforeseen circumstances and sicknesses do happen. In the event of a sickness, please call to give notice of your cancellation as soon as possible.

The success of your therapy sessions depends on consistency. The child's plan and goals are based on having a consistent treatment schedule. In the event of a cancellation, a re-scheduled appointment is strongly encouraged to maintain progress.
